Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening, sometimes referred to as ‘bleaching’, is a non-invasive treatment which brightens the natural colour of tooth enamel to achieve a whiter appearance. It is a popular choice for patients wishing to correct stained, discoloured or yellowed teeth. The natural colour of teeth varies greatly between individuals for a variety of reasons. These include natural genetics, smoking, eating certain foods such as soy sauce and beetroot, and drinking beverages such as coffee, tea and red wine.

Two methods of teeth whitening are offered at Baldivis Family Dental Care:

In-chair whitening

Schedule an appointment, sit back in the comfort of our state-of-the-art dental chairs, and you can achieve an instant whitening result in just one treatment session. First, a highly concentrated whitening gel will be applied to the surface of your teeth. A laser will then be used in conjunction with the agent to chemically lighten the tooth colour, while simultaneously accelerating the result.

Take home kit

Powerful, professional-strength take-home kits offer a safe and effective method of teeth whitening that you can perform right in the comfort and convenience of your own home. During a dental consultation, one of our qualified dental practitioners will cast impressions of your teeth to create a custom-made plastic tray for use at home. You will then be supplied with a whitening gel at a concentration level that is suitable for your teeth. You will also receive a demonstration on how to insert the gel into the holding tray and administer the treatment yourself to best achieve your desired result.

TIP: Teeth whitening does not brighten teeth permanently. Patients will require a touch-up treatment every few years. This may be sooner for people who regularly smoke and/or consume tea, coffee or wine.

We recommend that interested patients arrange a consultation with our team to address queries and determine whether either whitening method is a suitable option for them. A dental assessment also provides an opportunity to fill any cavities, which will need treatment prior to undergoing a whitening course, and/or receive a demonstration on how to use the at-home product.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner
