Individually tailored mouthguards play a major role in reducing the risk and impact of dental injuries. Unlike ill-fitting, over-the-counter mouthguards, those that are closely moulded to fit around an individual’s teeth and gums provide seamless and superior protection when absorbing shock to the mouth.
Dental injuries are commonly suffered during sport, leisure and recreational activities and can be painful, require extensive treatment and possibly be quite expensive. This makes custom made mouthguards an invaluable asset for people who participate in high-contact sports or recreational activities which may pose a risk of injury to the mouth; such as gymnastics or skateboarding.
Both ‘off the shelf’ and ‘boil and bite’ mouthguards purchased from sporting stores or pharmacies tend to be bulky, ill fitting and provide inadequate protection especially for back teeth and can impede breathing and speech.
Custom fitted mouthguards on the other hand provide a high level of protection and comfort. It fits snugly into position and stays in place during activity, preventing the mouthguard from moving around in the mouth and allowing the wearer to breathe and communicate easily. A custom fitted mouthguard provides the correct level of protection consistently across all teeth. It is a small investment to help reduce the risk of dental injury during physical activities including protection against concussion, jaw damage and loss of teeth.
Did you know that for your convenience we can arrange a visit from two of our staff to attend one of your sporting teams training sessions to arrange for any team member who wishes to purchase a custom made mouthguard? We will also arrange a special purchase price for large orders.
We attend your training session to take the initial impressions (moulds) of player’s teeth and then arrange for the mouthguards to be made. Each player would then need to attend our practice in order to get the mouthguard professionally fitted. This saves time and money for your team and more importantly may prevent unnecessary injury!
